About

Marci VanD'Huynslager, Licensed Mental Health Counselor  

Marci VanD'Huynslager is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, bringing together a unique and powerful combination of experience in both behavioral health and law enforcement. Since becoming licensed in 2017, Marci has dedicated her career to helping individuals, couples, and first responders navigate life’s most challenging moments with compassion, clarity, and evidence‑based care.

Before entering the mental health field, Marci spent nearly two decades in law enforcement, serving in roles that demanded resilience, leadership, and deep understanding of human behavior. Her professional background includes Patrol, Investigations, and serving as a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. She later held administrative leadership positions, including Major of Operations and Assistant Chief of Police for a South Florida municipality.

Marci has also been an active peer support provider for first responders and served as the Licensed Mental Health Professional for a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team, supporting officers through high‑stress and traumatic events.

Education & Professional Background

​

Marci earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Florida State University and her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her clinical experience spans a wide range of behavioral health settings, including:

  • Inpatient and outpatient treatment programs

  • Community mental health

  • Court‑ordered treatment for Batterer’s Intervention and Domestic Violence

  • DUI psychoeducation

  • In‑home, school‑based, and telehealth therapy for children, adolescents, and adults

In addition to her clinical work, Marci is a Qualified Supervisor, providing guidance and mentorship to clinicians in training.

 

Therapeutic Approach

Marci provides individual and couples therapy for a variety of mental health concerns, including:

  • Depression and mood dysregulation 

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma and trauma related conditions

  • Substance use concerns

  • Acute crisis and stress‑related issues

Her therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and person‑centered. Marci tailors' treatment to each client’s unique needs, drawing from:

  • Internal Family Systems Theory

  • Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

  • Trauma‑informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

She is also a Certified Trauma Practitioner and EMDR‑certified clinician, offering specialized support for clients healing from trauma, critical incidents, and deeply rooted emotional wounds.
